Cameroon is an African state, on the territory of which you can see a considerable number of unique architectural monuments: Gothic temples, palaces, museums, ancient sculptures and craft markets. But the main feature of the country lies in the diversity of nature. It is not for nothing that the people call it “miniature Africa”.

The main symbol of Cameroon is the volcano of the same name, towering 4040 meters above the surrounding area. This is the highest point of the state, which the locals call “Mongo ma Nedmi”, which means “Great Mountain”. The active volcano has 2 peaks. It erupted 8 times in the 20th century. In 1922, lava reached the Atlantic Ocean, burning everything in its path.

The mountain is available for climbing. It is the main tourist point of the state. The best time to conquer the volcano is the winter months. The mountain has its own observation deck – “Mountain Hotel”. It offers a wonderful view of the city of Buea and its surroundings: meadows, mountains and evergreen forests. And from the highest point you can see the waters of the Atlantic. However, tourists are warned in advance that the peak is often covered with clouds.

The Race of Hope is held annually in Cameroon. During the festival, thousands of climbers, both professionals and amateurs, try to reach the transcendental peak. The competition was first held in 1973.

Lake Chad is located at the junction of many African countries. The locals call it the “Sea of the Sahara”. “Big Water” is the largest body of water in Central Africa. It is especially beautiful here in those moments when the water level in the lake rises. This place is also unique in that not only state borders pass here, but also climatic ones: to the north of Chad is the Sahara, and to the south – grassy savannahs.

The best time to visit is autumn, when the reservoir is still full of water due to summer rains, and the weather in its vicinity is more stable. And it is at this time of the year that tourists can see representatives of the local fauna with their own eyes. The pond has become home to hippos, manatees and crocodiles. The water in the lake is fresh and completely safe for people and animals.

Near the border with Nigeria is Nyos – a lake whose depth reaches 209 meters. Scientists believe that it was formed in the crater of an extinct volcano filled with underground and surface waters more than 400 years ago. This place is dangerous for tourists. In 1986, carbon dioxide burst out, destroying everything that was within a radius of 27 kilometers. More than 1700 people became victims of volcanic activity. To avoid this, the “behavior” of the lake is carefully monitored.

Cameroon is an amazing land, the natural attractions of which are beautiful both for their uniqueness and the danger emanating from them.
